Before his Douyin fame, becoming an idol was the furthest thing Yetao had in mind for his future. He was part-timing at a milk tea shop to gain experience in business management.

After being encouraged by his newly gained fans and having support from his family, Yetao continued to work at the milk tea shop for a while to earn enough money to pursue a new path in Beijing. He began taking dance lessons at SDT Dance Center in late 2018 while working as the center's part-time receptionist.

He likes makeup and had been practicing it since his teen years. He had once thought of becoming a makeup artist after graduating from high school.

Yetao identifies as male. The way he wears his makeup and his hair has always been a point of contention among netizens as far back as 2018. Whether it was before, during, or after Chuang — many netizens have criticized & insulted him or claimed he is only being like this for attention.

He has not confirmed nor denied any statements regarding his sexuality (as it is his privacy).

Although he is a man, Yetao does not mind his fans calling him "Jiejie" (Big sister) or "Laopo" (Wife) as these feminine nicknames are considered a form of endearment in Chinese fan culture.

Yetao once explained his "MAVERICK" tattoo in an interview that he crossed it out because "it's a label other people forced onto [me], but it has nothing to do with [me], because it's not a label [I] gave [myself]"

Yetao prefers to be "undefined". He does not consider himself "girly" just because he "looks like a girl", "wears makeup & long hair", or because he likes to perform "girl group dances". Unfettered by gender expectations, how he presents himself to the world is simply how he chooses to live his life.

He has a small but loyal Chinese & international fanbase who love him for his passion for the life and also his hardworking spirit as he is eager and committed to every job he takes up.
